Somatic ExperiencingSomatic Experiencing (SE) is a therapy that focuses on the body and its natural potential to heal from trauma. Trauma is a fact of life that affects almost all of us at some point. It can be one-off (accidents, bereavement, burn-out, etc.) or long-term, such as developmental trauma (abuse, lack of attachment, etc.). In Somatic Experiencing, trauma is approached as a physiological rather than a psychological phenomenon. The aim is to understand how the body may or may not have reacted to a traumatic event, rather than to analyse its content. The focus is on the state of the nervous system in the present moment. By working with the body and its instinctual capacity for self-regulation, we can free ourselves from the after-effects of trauma. These can include: an ongoing feeling of fear, difficulty sleeping, digestive problems, recurring angry impulses, the impression of being caught up in the past and dissociated from our life in the here and now... The Somatic Experiencing therapist supports your healing process. Together, we will explore the state in which your nervous system has frozen following a trauma (flight, fight, disconnection) and put in place the conditions that will enable you to return to a dynamic harmony. A fear-free state where connection is re-established. Discharging encysted energy, rebuilding broken boundaries and using the vocabulary of physical sensations are some of the means we can use to this end. Therapeutic touch can make a significant contribution to the renegotiation of trauma. We will discuss with you the possibility of incorporating Craniosacral Therapy into your SE sessions. The body speaks its reality. It is by listening to it that we can heal from trauma. |
